FYI #050190bm
Question:
How are the PCSA files stored on the VAX? I know they use a
"virtual volume" and as I understood it, it is NOT compatible
with standard VMR/RMS files and therefore, only PCSA users can
get at them (unlike NetWare VMS). Is this true?
Answer:
PCSA has the capacity to store files in either Virtual RMS format as we do
or in a container file format. The container file format means all the
DOS files are really one big RMS file. I believe there are
utilities to access the files from a VT. The main reason for
offering both formats is flexibility and performance. The container method
allows faster file transfer, but no file locking or easy virtual
file access.
